KNOXVILLE, TN– With a rough exterior and even rougher voice, Danny Trejo has built a career playing a villain in everything from cartoons to horror films. Even on his good days, Trejo plays a perfect antihero as the reluctant tough guy who will win at any cost. With a cult following to match his often-offbeat roles, Danny Trejo is sure to delight fans in East Tennessee, this August.
As a young man, Danny Trejo was often in trouble- serving several stints in California jails and prisons. During time in the infamous San Quentin prison, Trejo became a champion boxer in two of the prison’s weight classes. He also used that discipline to work through a 12-step program to conquer drug addiction, and eventually even council and mentor other addicts.
Danny was able to translate his gruff voice, long hair, mustache, and distinctive tattoos into a broad array of film roles. From films like “From Dusk Til Dawn,” “Once Upon A Time in Mexico,” “Grindhouse,” and the title character in the “Machete” series, to the family-friendly “Spy Kids” trilogy, he has truly done it all. Trejo even guest-starred in the acclaimed drama “Breaking Bad” and voiced three different characters in the “King of the Hill” animated series. He can even add a Snickers bar Super Bowl commercial to his resume, appearing as a cranky version of Marcia Brady before the satisfying snack.
In another dramatic turn in his real life, Danny sprang into action at the scene of a Los Angeles car accident. After witnessing a crash that left one vehicle overturned, Trejo and another bystander worked together to pull a baby free of his trapped car seat. “Everything good that has happened to me,” Trejo told KABC news, “has happened as a direct result of helping someone else.”
Bubba Fest is honored to bring such an iconic actor and upstanding citizen to Knoxville, where he will join the legendary Chuck Norris, Lee Majors, NASCAR legend Richard Petty, Michael Madsen, Emmy-nominees Nikolaj Coster-Waldau from “Game of Thrones” and Chris Sullivan from “This Is Us,” “The Walking Dead” stars Khary Payton, Ross Marquand, and Cooper Andrews, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and wrestling legends Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Road Dogg Jesse James and Billy Gunn, among many others.
