Khary Payton is an American actor, voice artist and producer. He stars as “King Ezekiel” on AMC’s The Walking Dead. He’s done voice work for animated series like Teen Titans, and for video games like Call of Duty. Payton was born on May 16, 1972 in Augusta, Georgia. After high school he attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theater studies.


Payton developed an interest in performing after winning a high school talent competition. He performed at local comedy clubs and later joined the Dallas Theatre Center productions. Payton had a recurring role as “Dr. Terrell Jackson” on the ABC soap opera General Hospital (2011). He was cast as “King Ezekiel”, the leader of the Kingdom on season 7 of AMC’s The Walking Dead (2016). Payton held a supporting role as “Andrew” in the 2003 romantic-comedy ‘Latter Days’. His acting credits include the series Criminal Minds, CSI: Miami, Walker, Texas Ranger and the films Dracula II: Ascension (2003) and Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005).

Payton is probably best known for his work as a voice actor. He’s contributed to a number of animated series and video games. Payton voiced the character “Cyborg” from Teen Titans, “Aqualad” from Young Justice and “Ten” from the series Justice League. Other animated shows include Ben 10, Loonatics Unleashed and Transformers: Robots in Disguise. Payton’s video game roles include “Zack” from Dead or Alive, and “Azrael” from Batman: Arkham City. Other video game series include SOCOM, Metal Gear Solid, God of War and World of Warcraft.
